The voters of McVeytown Borough elect a Mayor and a seven-member Council, each serving a four-year term. Council members are elected every two years, with three members elected in one election and four members elected in the other. The Council is responsible for planning for the future, enacting ordinances, establishing local tax rates, approving the budget, and providing an oversight of the current needs of the community.
The Council appoints the Secretary/Treasurer, Solicitor, Engineer, and members of the Water & Sewer Authority, Rothrock Playground Authority, and Zoning Hearing Board. Additionally, the Council hires staff for borough maintenance, water system, and sewage treatment plant operations.
Regular Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Borough Building, located at 10 N. Queen Street.
